The NuBed Pocket Sprung unit

At the heart of every NuBed mattress is the specially developed pocket sprung unit known as T.I.P.S - Totally Independent Pocket Springs.

This sprung unit has been specially developed to use in combination with different modern foam materials such as Memory Foam and Natural Latex to produce a range of comfort levels that will meet most peoples requirements. Each separate spring is held under continuous pressure; pushing upwards the springs can never become 'stretched or tired'. They will not lose height and will maintain a longer life span compared to the standard pocket unit.

A pocket sprung unit comprises of numerous individual springs each housed in its own fabric casing working independently of one another therefore responding to your body shape, weight and size assuring correct spinal alignment and muscular support.  This means that two people sleeping on either a Double or King size mattress can have their own level of support without disturbing each other. The more springs used per unit means not only the comfort level improves but also the less strain the mattress is put under helping to maintain the correct support for many years to come. T.I.P.S is available in three different spring counts:1000, 2000 and 3000More springs provide more comfort. These spring counts refer to the King Size models.

This new spring unit system also allows air to circulate through the pocket spring layers helping to keep the mattress fresh, well aired and dry which will help towards a healthy night's sleep.

Fillings

Natural filling materials such as mohair, horsehair and wool are all known to be the possible cause as to why certain people suffer from various allergies. The symptoms can be itching, sneezing and in some cases a general feeling of being tired.NuBed mattresses are produced using only premium grade modern filling materials in order to create a clean, dust mite resistant, hypo-allergenic sleeping environment.

You now have the choice of selecting a filling from the following three options to use in combination with the spring unit to provide the desired blend of comfort and support so that you enjoy the best possible rest.

  1. Memory foam (visco elastic foam) mattresses from MattressFirstMEMORY FOAM (otherwise known as Visco-elastic foam)
This foam was originally developed in the 1960's by NASA for the space programme to help reduce the G-Forces on the astronauts during lift off. Since then this foam has been developed for other usages, one being that a number of Medical Institutions have endorsed its use for mattresses because of the unique properties that help to relieve pressure sores and improve circulation especially for patients who are confined to bed for long periods of time. In more recent times this foam is now being used as a layer of filling in domestic mattresses helping to offer the same benefits whilst also adding the feeling of deep support and comfort.

The foam responds to body temperature and weight and moulds to the shape of your body helping to relieve pressure and keeping your spine in the correct alignment. When you are not on the mattress then the foam reverts back to its normal shape.

Memory foam helps to benefit those people who suffer from arthritis, sciatica and other general aches and pains offering a perfect sleep surface and is also Hypo-Allergenic.

This product adheres to the stringent U.K. Fire Safety Regulations.

Please be aware that when opening the packaging of a new Memory Foam Mattress, depending on your sensitivity to smells you may find that the mattress gives off a 'chemical' odour. This is a by-product from the foam manufacturing process. No toxic ingredients are used to produce memory foam therefore the odour is harmless. We suggest that you air the new mattress for at least two days before use - in some cases it may take a little longer depending on your sensitivity to the smell. Once the mattress is in use it may also be advisable to wash the bed sheets after the first two nights, thereafter the odour should disappear.
  2. NATURAL LATEX
Natural latex extracted from the Rubber Tree (hevea brasiliensis) is blended with a synthetic latex, this process is known as the Talalay method which produces the finest type of latex offering many benefits. These are as follows:
    • Naturally conforms to the body's contours relieving high pressure areas which often cause disturbance during the night.
    • Talalay latex is very supportive making it the ideal filling for the person who likes the feeling of sleeping 'on' a mattress, providing a firm but comfortable platform for the spine and other parts of your body.
    • Talalay latex is very resilient and durable and therefore long lasting.
    • Respiratory suffers may also benefit by choosing a mattress containing Natural Latex as it inhibits the growth of bacteria, mildew, mould and fungus.
    • Talalay latex is Hypo-Allergenic and is therefore beneficial to allergy sufferers. Dust Mites are also not to be found in latex.
    • Latex also has natural elasticity so when used as the filling layer over the pocket sprung unit the result gives pure sleep comfort as weight is evenly distributed across the mattress surface.
    • The 'open cell structure' of Talalay latex has breath-ability properties that will help keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer resulting in a healthy sleep environment.
    • Talalay latex conforms to the stringent U.K. Fire Safety Regulations.
  3. SUPERIOR FOAM
This is a high quality version of a standard foam (CMHR = Combustion Modified High Resilient) that has been used for many years throughout the bed industry and fully complies with the very stringent U.K. Fire Safety Regulations.

    Superior Foam is also Hypo-Allergenic.

Superior foam has excellent contouring properties ensuring good support for the spine and your general overall comfort with the benefit of being able to offer very competitive price points for the starter models in all three spring counts, ie, 1000, 2000 and 3000.

The Outer Cover

To complement the pocket sprung unit and high quality fillings, a luxurious two-way stretch Knitted fabric has been selected for the outer cover. This type of fabric enhances the comfort level by the nature of its soft feel but at the same time the special structure of this material is very important helping to transfer the correct support level to the body from the fillings and spring unit below.

To help protect the outer cover and the general overall condition of your new mattress it is advisable to use a Mattress Protector.  Please refer to the Mattress Protector page.

The Tailored Finish

The Superior and Natural Latex mattresses are finished using the traditional tufted method as shown below in picture "A" which is synonymous with all high quality mattresses. This technique helps to keep the fillings securely in place therefore guaranteeing good support and comfort from the mattress surface for many years to come.

Memory Foam requires to be unrestricted in order to allow it to respond and mould to your body shape to give the desired level of comfort so a 'Smooth Top' finish is preferred as shown in the picture 'B' below. This type of finish adds an aesthetically pleasing appearance to these luxurious mattresses.
